Oh happy day!!
I am pretty squealingly excited today because this past weekend, me and my husband managed to do something I was getting increasingly worried we would never do - we managed to buy a new sofa - as in we managed to finally come to decision on what sofa suite we would actually buy. You cannot imagine how much of a sticky point of challenging disagreement this has been.
For the past couple of years our need for a new set of cushion-y seats has become a situation of dire importance because you see those seat and arm rest covers in the photo above? They are not merely there for their country looking charm, they in fact hide a volcano's worth of rip-pity tears and sponge-y sofa filling leakage. We have now had this suite for more than ten years and I really think we have been making do by covering all the gap-y tears for at least the last four (though considering this entire suite was a £500 Argo's purchase - I think we more than got our money's worth).
Over the past few years I have dreamed about the kind of sofa I would replace this one with - the trouble was - so did my hubby and our perfect sofa dreams did not marry well. Last year when we attempted to shop for something new, he managed to pick the one sofa in the entire shop I hated - horrendously ornate and with what looked like a stack of ring doughnuts for feet.....................I kid you not.
For now I will be sat here on MY sofa, cross stitching and anxiously waiting the arrival of MY new seat - which is a Miss Marple style lady chair like this one.
oh gosh, i laughed at the doughnuts for feet! it can be a challenge agreeing on furniture.
i would love to get a new couch too. ours is also about 10 years old, but it will not rip tear or stain. and believe it or not, i am rather frustrated with that! if it would break somehow, my hubs would see the need for a new one! :)

Many years ago, DH and I were on a short holiday in a very picturesque little town north of Milwaukee,WI, name-Cedarburg. Strolling down the tree lined streets, passing by darling shops, delis, churches and mills, we came upon furniture store. We wandered in. DH spotted a loveseat/couch that was to his liking (feeling very confidant that a purchase was in no way possible!). After a short conversation with the owner (I LOVED that piece of furniture) about details, etc. DH remarked that "someday" we would follow up on this and picked up a brochure. Upon further talks, we discovered the owner had relatives 25 miles from our home and would be coming through our area for the holidays and could deliver this item free of charge!!!! Hmmmm, no more excuses! The 200+ miles were covered and the couch delivered and DH has not suggested we "look" at any such item since!!!!!

Hehe! :-) I know how difficult it is, and I even think that my husband and I have relatively similar tastes. Still, it always takes us ages to decide and settle on one solution we both like. On the other hand, so far we haven't regretted buying anything, so I guess getting something "right" is worth the wait ...

I hope your Miss Marple chair arrives soon - glad you finally agreed on a settee/chairs you both like!!

You know what? Whenever my mum needs to buy something like a new sofa she takes me with her instead of my dad ... and he's happy because he doesn't need to go shopping;-)

Love that Miss Marple chair!
Getting new furniture is hard business. I've had my couch for about 10 years too and, while it's not losing it's stuffing, it's way too big for my living room (I brought it from my old home where it fit perfectly). I've been looking for about a year now for a new couch and can't seem to find one I really like AND it's only me looking!

Exciting! A few years back when my living room was gutted I had to get rid of my ripped Argos Sofa. It had done me well - over 10 years I'm sure. The hardest thing I found was furniture had suddenly got big and I live in a tiny cottage. Anything I saw that would fit was crazy expensive. I ended up buying a very cheap sofa mail order (because I'd run out of budget)and it's lasted maybe 4 or 5 years, but is a bit saggy. I keep putting off replacing it!

Oh, enjoy your new sofa! :) I have wanted to get a new one for years too... we've been married for just over 10 years, and have had the same ones the whole time. (AND they were a bargain when the private hospital up the rd. refurbished...)... funny thing is, recently I've started to like their chrome legs - even if the sofa does make a funny noise when you sit on it!

I love the coordinating pillows and quilt from your fabric line. Very nice together.

I understand totally! we have been married for 40 years and seemingly, as far as decor, furniture etc is concerned, we have never been on the same wavelength. My taste is of course much better then his!
I love your chair!

Too funny! same here also. 40 yrs married on 26th and we are chalk and cheese. Last week I went shopping for new curtains for our bedroom. I bought some and also blinds. I walked past the furniture store on the way to spotlight and on the way back to my car and saw that they were having a sale on recliners. I went in and tried them all out for size and comfort. I made my purchase and they will be delivered mid March. We too have needed a new lounge suite and argue everytime we go looking and of course come away with nothing. Well not this time. On coming home I washed walls, moved furniture, cleaned windows, cleaned out wardrobes the fitted the new blinds and curtains. And of course that needed me to start a new quilt. Well, precious princess got home on the week-end and never noticed the changes in the bedroom until I pointed them out. I then fessed up to my other purchase. He pouted and got all indignant, I smiled nicely and bit the inside of my cheeks to stop myself laughing at his tirade. Shame on me for making a big purchase without consulting him, he would always consult me he said. I am still laughing at his genuine indignation but I WIN and the recliners will still be here mid March. The next 40 yrs are mine. I'm going to be the Boss of the house.
Enjoy you new Miss Marple chair and the family theirs.

I had to laugh. My husband and I are in exactly the same dilemma. We desperately need a new sofa but can't agree on one. Glad to know it's not just us.
