the quilts I dream in

It was such a pleasure to be able to share my news with you last week and even more of a pleasure to read all your delightful comments here, on flickr and on twitter too.  Thank you to everyone who wrote a little something for me, I was very very touched.

Today's post is all about quilts in action.  It's all very well having this little addiction to stitching up a quilt or several and showcasing them fresh off the sewing machine but I wanted to share with you that all my quilts are made to be used here at home.

The other day I took a little time to snap a few pics of my bed and show you a quilt that was finished up and has now been in use for several months but I've now come to realise I've never blogged the finished piece (yes I know those pillowcases could do with an iron but I wanted to snap these pics as is not give you some stylised untrue version).  

This little (well 80" square little) was made up with blocks made by me and others in the Ten Make Two quilting bee, for my month I asked for blocks with pieced trees and houses.  I had two objectives when piecing these blocks together, I wanted the size to be big enough to use on my bed and I wanted to try something bold with the sashing.  All too often I auto pilot to white sashing but there was already a good deal of white in these blocks, so I decided on a check effect with red and white.

This quilt has such a different look to all my others, I've loved using (and admiring) it this winter.

I was quite dubious when I was quilting it, I did all the stippling in white which really stood out on the red but now that it's been use a while and washed several times, I actually really like the effect.

There are so many great blocks here, I could stare at it all day and having so much eye candy to look at when making the bed and getting dressed in the morning really helps too put me in a good mood and start the day inspired.

I just had to show you too, I currently have three quilts on my bed as well as a (light) duvet.  In the middle is my spiderweb quilt with the pickledish at the bottom.  Let me tell you, it's cosy in there!

With the big freeze there, I would've thought you had every quilt you own piled high on the bed. It sure does look toasty in there.

Beautiful! 3 quilts? gosh that's even more than I can cope with, and I frequently have 2 on top of my autumn weight duvet! Though I confess my current bed quilt, has silk wadding and is soooooo warm!

Love the quilts! One question - how do you choose the "top" quilt when all three are so pretty?
As for ironing pillowslips - when you are spinning so much loveliness at the sewing machine and at the drawingboard and looking after your girls... who has the heart to scold you over crumpled pillowslips?

Dreaming under 3 GORGEOUS quilts sounds lovely! In our cold climate, we use down duvets. So I usually settle for lap size quilts.
