There is nothing I like better than a good habit. Something you are known to do as regular as clockwork, something that you just plain like doing for the good old sake of it, something that makes you think ' oh goody, I am still me'. Something that put the u into you.
Before I go into the habit I am in the middle of talking about today, let me digress a moment with you (I do like a good digression, slices up the predictibility don't you think?). Today's digression is the sentence - Do you like my faux bean plants? or did they fool you too (I was fooled when I first met these ornaments round my friend Zoe's house). I just love these mock plants - all the beauty of seed bursting into life without the forgetting to water them bit.
Sorry for the interuption, where was I? Habits, yes habits. I have lots including digressing in the middle of blog posts and sewing squares into table cloths....
Like this. I seem to get the urge to make a simple square tablecloth every once in a while when I fancy a little mindless sewing project. Part of me thinks 'how can you want to make another, don't be so boring' but another part of me just wants to be a patchwork square table cloth maker.
As you can see, habits lead to collections. Not a bad thing to have a collection of boring old square patch covers for tables. There are worse collections I can think of.
Just in case you fancy starting up your own collection, there's a sort of how to thingy tutorial here.
i should make some of these!

lol, i thought quilting itself was a "collecting" habit. ;p

Love those faux bean plants....I NEED some of those! I imagine quilters' desire to play with simple patchwork, at times, is what brought about the first (Moda)Charms! There is something in their simplicity that evokes the essence of "quilting" and all the wonderful memories that come along with them! Lovely post;b Hugs,Doreen

I love your collection. My table cloth collection is starched white damask cloths and I have a round table so no use to me. Ummm!.....wonder if I can make them round and maybe add a few squares here and there. NO! NO! I must ot get sidetracked or cut up Nannas' good table cloths.
Your faux beans fooled me and the containers they are in are so cute.

Adorable. And your plants had me 100% fooled, I had to do a double take

I was fooled by the bean sprouts! Love your table cloths. Your newest says "spring" to me.

Me, I love your "charmed" table clothes. Personally, I 'm not very good at sewing- no- not even a straight line. My collection of square quilts is a very large collection of very wonky seams indeed.
Love the faux bean sprouts! I had to read your post twice to "get it", but then, maybe the containers in which they are "growing" should have given it away!

So thrilled you love the bean plants. Are they definitely made of latex? I am convinced the ones in our house follow the light!
They are made by talented artist Clare Tindall at http://www.questionersgardentime.com/index.html

I have a habit of getting lost in the inspiration of crafty bloglands and not sewing on anything on my project list. I need a new habit... :)

Do you think the 5" charm squares are a good size to use or are they too large for a table topper?
Posted by: Lisa | 03/08/2012 at 08:28 PM
Hi Lisa,
I normally use any size between 4" and 6", so 5" is perfect.

Loving the Flea Market Fancy mixed in with your collections! And there is just something so perfecta out the simplest of patchwork. Your collection brings memories of summer evenings eating on the screen porch with Grnadma's table cloths.
