I felt it was time I dipped my toes into something new, so over the weekend I took full advantage of it being St Patricks day, National quilting day and Mother's day by learning how to knit socks.... I've been wanting to learn for some time and after two days of socking I'm only wondering what took me so long. I'm knitting the gusset heel basic sock pattern from the book Socks From The Toe Up on a pair of 2.5mm (size 1) circular needles using Cakewalk yarn in Cam. As someone who has only ever knitted one item (my eternity cowl) in the round before all I can say is I think I will be knitting a LOT of socks from now on.

HOORAY!!! Are you on ravelry? If yes, friend me: seedesigns

Well socks are pretty addictive! I've just cast on a pair of Phloem Socks from the latest issue of Knitty, and I don't want to do any work, I just want to knit on them! And yes, I'm on Ravelry too (JenACKnitwear), so do say hello if you are over there...

YAY!!!!! I bought this book {thanks to the lovely Ms. Porkchop} but not letting myself start anything until I finish the pair that I'm on now! I also saw another lovely book of socks that I'm absolutely drooling over...I will not cave ;) Do you like the Cakewalk yarn? I've almost clicked the button about a dozen times now...

Dianne,
I adore the cakewalk yarn (and splashed out on two new skeins over the weekend!)
Click that button you won't regret it ;)
Randi,
Give it a go with either one or two circular needles, I've heard its a lot easier than the dpn's. I've had zero problems.

You are amazing, Love your sox. Ive been knitting sox for a long time on 4 needles and have never mastered the 2 circulars. I may have to give it another try.

Love the socks! Dying to try, but I'm notoriously bad at getting the gauge right. Imight wind up knitting socks which will fit an elephant instead of a size 6!;)

knitting from the toe up makes so much sense. you can stop when it's as tall as you want it to be.

I love hand knit socks! You'll find the only part that is intimidating is getting started. Yours are beautiful!
