Welcome to my stop on the Fat Quarterly Shape Workshop For Quilters Blog Trip.
It makes me so happy to see that this great book is finally out!! For those of you who don't know I was once part of this great team, one of the original founding members in fact. I lasted about 4 months before I decided that me and the colossal amount of work that goes into both the E-zine and the blog really needed to part ways. To this day I do not know how Tacha, Brioni, Katy and John (and now Lynne too) do it. All I know is they put out a great issue each and every time.
The book is an extension of a part of the E-zine known as The Design Challenge and is split into 6 chapters, each focusing on a geometric shape and provides 10 block patterns, a quilt pattern and a pattern for one other smaller item (table runner, pillow etc).
What I love about this book is it offers both traditional patterns given a playful modern twist - and by this I just mean the creativity is let loose to come up with something that is fresh and new.
It also offers more improvised style blocks where the shape is the catalyst and is pushed into inspiring directions.
I especially love this Patchwork star block.
And this is my favourite quilt.
Overall the book has a fresh clean look, has lots of inspiring ideas to both follow to the letter or use as inspiration to fuel your own creativity. There are patterns suitable for beginners and more advanced quilters.
Having been written by 4 authors who have been working together on a daily basis for a good while now, the book is a great pool of collective talent, written by a group of people who have several years experience in making quilts, writing and putting together a magazine, heralding and taking part in various bees and swaps and writing patterns and tutorials. Trust me these hardworking peeps KNOW their stuff.
If you are interested in checking it out for yourself, Lark books have kindly offered to give away one copy to one of my readers. To enter just leave me a comment telling me why you think you should win (this is just for fun and the winner will be picked randomly).
I will pick a winner on Sunday the 3rd of June, Good luck!!!

I'd love to win this book, not because I want to make all the quilt blocks (not saying I don't...), but because I am super curious to know how all of those shapes come together! It's a mystery to me how to get it all to look so nice!!!! Thanks, C
