I didn't think that I would get to write this post today. It has been one of those days. One word. Kids.
A later posting time is perfectly fitting for today's subject matter however (in the UK at least it is getting dark). Today's subject matter being Halloween inspired. There are two reasons I've made/am posting this early - I always run out of time making holiday things unless I make them 2 months in advance/I won't at home for Halloween this year.
So here it is in all it's spooky glory - a cute little table runner for the scary season to come. When Amanda showed her own version a few weeks ago, I fell in love, purchased the pattern and making it went straight to the top of the essential to do list. (The pattern is available here).
It wasn't until I began pulling together my fabrics that I realised a slight drawback - I didn't actually have a single scrap of Halloween fabric. Eager as I was to get started, fabrics instead were chosen by resemblence to a pumpkin-esque colour scheme.
To go with my new runner I modified the pincushion pattern from Joelle Hoverson's 'Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted Gifts' to make a pumpkin version.
I think I love this pincushion slightly more than is healthy.
Hmmmm... maybe I need to get W.I.P.ping on a few cushions to go with.
You know me by now...

I love it!

The pincushion is way too cute! I can't wait for fall - if only we could skip winter!

I also know the sting of not finishing in time for seasonal/holiday projects...happened to me last Christmas. And although I live in Australia, and Halloween and Autumn are not traditional features of October, I have finished 2 single bed Halloween quilt tops and 1 back already. You can find pics at http://findingfifth.blogspot.com/. Just piecing the 2nd back this week before I send it off to the quilters this Sunday.
Time to get some cute Halloween fabrics I say Aneela...pumpkins a'plenty. Cheers, Fiona

I love to decorate for fall/autumn. I like the color choices...fall-ish but not just Halloween. I have been doing some fall sewing for the past few weeks...it helps get me through a very hot August!

I love it! How simple and beautiful... I think you'll get more use out of it without the halloween fabric - this way you can use it in September and November, too, and catch all of autumn.

Great table runner! Sometimes it is fun to use
more generic prints so you can enjoy it all fall. Nola

I totally love your pumpkin pincushion too.
Australians don't traditionally celebrate Halloween, although the retailers are really pushing it. It's harder to be spooky in spring with all the freshness and longer days...

The pumpkins are inspiring. Oh no, another project for me.

Very sweet and well-sewed. As a follower of your blog, it is almost unbelievable to me that this was made by you out of your stash- the colors are so different than what you usually work in. Neat!
PS I am American, living in America and today I bought the cheese crackers with peanut butter in them for a snack. I used to always associate them with going fishing with my dad and now they make me think of your snack experience at O'Hare.

SO STINKING CUTE! I've been eye-balling that pattern for a while but haven't committed on it yet. But I think this will sway me by tomorrow.
And that pincushion is delicious. Uber adorable.

*claps wildly like a mad woman* I love that table runner rather more than is healthy, and the pumpkin pin cushion too. LOVE them!
(also - do you love how in our guilt for being away at Halloween we are trying to make up for it with quilty stuff. I'm making a quilt too)

I Love Love your fabric....I have some of all of it thank you

It's a terrific pincushion, and a wonderful table runner. The fact that it isn't actually Halloween fabrics makes it usable for the entire fall. With that inspiration, I can even make one for a friend who doesn't celebrate Halloween! Thank you!
